Think about it. Once a cheaper, more fuel efficient, easier to live with, alternative will be available, the Escalade will become a relic, just like the G-Class.
A small but dedicated, eccentric base of buyers, will still be interested in those.

Nope. No one will stand next to that in a rap music video, so it’s doa.

There are already cheaper, easier to live with alternatives to the Escalade. Yet it’s still the best selling Cadillac because this is America, godammit.

They may sell less, but like the Highlander did to the Land Cruiser, or the ML did to the G-Wagon the Exalade will become even more of a rare, elite vehicle.
Or maybe not. The Traverse didn’t exactly kill the Suburban.

People who drive Merkurs and Triumphs are eccentric. People who drive Escalades and G-Classes are basic.*
*There are exceptions. I would buy a G-Class if I had money, because I like the design.

I think they’ll just make it a top of the line vehicle. No ‘base’ models. It’s not like they’re going to be stopping suburban/Yukon production. Maximize those margins.

Thats a good comparison (to the G) because MB tried to kill the G several times but their customers wouldn’t allow it. The Slade isn’t going anywhere, its still a huge cash cow for Cadillac and it has nothing to do with its qualities as transportation.

A relic which Cadillac can move further up-market then sell for even more money.

Sarcasm right? But just in case.....
It is size and image that sells $75,000 Escalades like ice cream on a hot day.
This XT6/XT7 thing won’t even register for people who buy Escalades.
It’s like saying that your average truck buyer will stop buying F150, Rams and Silverados because the Honda Pilot is easier to live with, more fuel efficient and cheaper.
Or people who buys SUVs/Crossovers will buy sport wagons because they are easier to live with, more fuel efficient and cheaper.
People buy what they WANT, not what they NEED. The whole auto industry is based on that.

As long as the Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon is around, Escalade will be around. I mean it’s not like it cost them much to develop the Escalade.
I mean cops are buying Tahoes in hordes, great for sitting high and reeling in those cell phone tickets, so volume for the Tahoe will be there.

You underestimate just how many FUCK YEAH MURRICA people out there want a bigass FUCK YEAH MURRICA truck. For example: these two coworkers of mine .
The guy with the lifted F-150 on bro wheels and Hankook Dynapro AT-M all-terrain tires with a giant LED light bar stealth mounted behind the grille is the top sales rep at our IT consulting company and drives it around to different suburban Wisconsin office parks and restaurants meeting with customers. The biggest thing he tows is the two kid seats permanently residing in the back seat, and occasionally a router or something. He half-jokingly talks about how he wants to install a urinal in his garage so his 3 elementary- and middle-school aged boys and their friends can pee out there instead of all over his bathrooms.
The guy with the 4Runner took an SR5 Premium, made it look like a TRD Pro, and calls it “the only TRD Pro with leather and navigation in the country,” even though it does not have any of the TRD Pro fancy 4wd gizmos, because it’s an SR5 Premium, not a TRD Pro. He at least uses it to tow a motorcycle trailer with stuff like this in it:
So he gets some points for that. Oh, and I just helped him choose new highway all-season tires for it. Because he doesn’t want or need all-terrains. For his not-TRD Pro.
I guaran-fucking-tee that both of them would consider an Escalade but not some pansy-ass crossover.

I don't know. That's like saying the Traverse would kill the Tahoe.

To be fair, the less people driving around with cellphones in their hands, the better.
For my own two cents, I don’t think the Escalade will die. Makes too much money and is also a pretty big cultural symbol at this point.

I cannot tell you how badly I want to instal a urinal in my garage.

I hear Golf TDI’s should be cheap. “I promise VWUSA, I’m just going to use it as a urinal.”

It did help kill the bottom rung models. They’re in pretty different price brackets now. Traverse starting around 30k and suburban being like 50k now iirc.

Personally I hope they at least slow down the sales of those cruise ships. I have an 04 Yukon Denali XL and that thing is huge. It actually made me realize that I don’t want a full size pickup and a Dodge Dakota will be fine. I hate washing escalades also. Being a wash bay person, every one of those I see is 45 minutes of work before it heads to detail.

Oh no I’m not saying distracted driving is good. But you KNOW for them it’s about the revenue, not safety.

And the Sky killed the Corvette. And Cayman killed the 911. And the Evoque killed the Range Rover. You underestimate the ballers, wannabee ballers, and people who want a fancy way tow their horse trailer.

No it won’t.
People who own Escalades don’t care about price, or fuel efficiency. It’s just another Cadillac SUV.

Me too. I don’t understand all the hate thrown at the thing around here; I fucking love it. Same basic design since ‘79, it’s gorgeous and looks like nothing else on the road.

I would be ok with the Escalade being a Platinum-trim only uber-lux vehicle.

That's how I see it going. The Yukon Denali/base escalade is pretty similar already. Maybe toss in a Suburban High Country if they want.

Yea but could direct air traffic with the tail lights of an XT6/7? Cause you could with an escalade.

Nah, the Escalade will still have its niche crowd. It costs GM relatively little to engineer & build, but they can sell it for a ridiculous profit margin, and there are plenty of buyers out there that will accept no substitute.

Nah, somebody will always want the biggest whatever it is out there, if they keep making them and keep them prices higher, folks will still buy them. What they may get is folks like my wife and I before our first kid. I would've jumped all over one of these instead of an Escalade. The wife wasn't keen on how big the Escalade was and I didn't want to drive a Buick. So we bought a q7 and loved it. If the caddy wouldve been around, probably would have bought one. But there will still be somebody out there that will want the bigger Escalade just because it's more.

My dad DD’s a 2015 Ram 2500 Laramie Longhorn mega cab/6.4ft box, all options, a cummins, 2" leveling kit, and 35" tires. He never goes off road, but does tow 10,000+ lbs a once or twice a month.
